Overview

Akiko Bareng works as a paralegal and supports attorneys in Intellectual Property and Technology matters. With her experience and continuous learning of IP, she is knowledgeable about the different aspects of IP law as well as the recent developments in technology and AI. 


 

Background

Prior to joining Araki International IP & Law in December 2025, Akiko worked for a Japanese patent and trademark law boutique where her role was to research and support the licensing team in various projects. She also worked for a patent research company thereafter, where she developed profound technical comprehension and programming abilities. 

Experience

Akiko has the following experience in the IP field:
- Worked on four major IP due diligence projects for M&A and business carve outs of Japanese companies, responsible for supporting the licensing team in collecting data, summarizing contracts, and translating reports into English.
- Supported patent brokering activities such as researching relevant facts, sending out offer letters, and keeping track of responses.
- Supported English communication with foreign law office regarding the Trademark prosecution matters of a Japanese company.
- Supported various monthly patent research projects and FTOs of different technologies in Japanese and English.
- Developed programs using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to streamline monthly research and reporting processes.
